The supreme sports car experience, 100% pure electric power. The Porsche Taycan is Porsche’s first all-electric car, and a world-class example of a sports car that can replicate that satisfying burst of acceleration, but without an engine.

The innovative Taycan was unveiled in 2019, with the car first available in the 2020 model year. The range has been developed to include three different body styles – the Porsche Taycan is a four-door coupé but there is also the Taycan Sport Turismo and Taycan Cross Turismo, both estate-style versions.

Let’s get straight to it – the Porsche Taycan is a beautiful car and now, years after its stunning debut, there are lots of excellent approved used models available.

Anything with the famous Porsche rearing horse badge on it is premium. That’s the point, it’s a brand to be desired. But, if you’re looking for a sports car that delivers a thrilling drive, doesn’t require a drop of fuel and has a superior tech line-up, buying a used Porsche Taycan is money very well spent.

It’s an electric car, but with zero compromise on performance. Put your foot down, and the Taycan is fast. And we mean fast. Drive the range-topping Turbo S and you can go from 0-62mph in a remarkable 2.8 seconds; there’s no need for any car to be faster than that. The base model Taycan is capable of 0-62mph in 5.4 seconds, which is probably quick enough for most people.

The Taycan is more than just a speed demon though, equally comfortable purring near-silently around town or cruising effortlessly on the motorway. Porsche’s built-in driving modes feature means you can optimise performance, switching between Range, Normal, Sport and Sport Plus depending on your journey and whether you wish to maximise battery range or power up performance. Driving modes are operated via a dial on the steering wheel.

Driving range with the Taycan varies depending on the model variant you have, because of the size of battery it’s fitted with, and the way you drive. The base Taycan has a standard battery of 79.2kWh, which can deliver a range of up to around 270 miles. Adding the Performance Battery Plus – 93.4kWh – can boost that range to over 300 miles, and many used Porsche Taycan models will come with it fitted. On the Turbo and Turbo S, Performance Battery Plus is standard.

The interior is modern and of high quality, and the seats are comfortable and supportive thanks to the electrically adjustable function, allowing you to set the perfect position. Eight-way adjustment is standard, but some models come with the upgraded 18-way adaptive seats – either because they’ve been added as an option, or are included as part of the standard spec (such as with the GTS).

There are multiple screens, displaying info and data, including a 10.9-inch curved infotainment screen as standard, which works with wireless Apple CarPlay. A 10-speaker sound system also comes as standard, and there are USB-C charging points inside.

With a used Porsche Taycan, there are two boots. The main one, at the rear, is 405 litres, while the smaller front boot is 84 litres in size.

Standard safety tech includes lane keeping assist, traffic sign recognition and automatic emergency braking.

Within the used Porsche Taycan model range, you’ll typically discover a significant difference in price, depending on the version you choose.

There are also three different types of Taycan when it comes to body style, with a saloon version – that looks distinctly like a coupé, with its sleek styling – and two ‘estate’ types. Note, these are ‘estate’ models as defined by Porsche; trust us, both the Taycan Cross Turismo and the Taycan Sport Turismo are much sportier than the average estate car.

Starting prices across the three types has the sports saloon Taycan as the lowest-priced model, followed by the Sport Turismo, and then the Cross Turismo. Use this as a guide only when viewing used Porsche Taycan cars for sale though, as the trim levels and mileage all have a bearing on overall cost, as well as performance.

The model variants in the Taycan range are the entry-level Taycan; the Taycan 4S; the Taycan GTS; the Taycan Turbo, and the Taycan Turbo S. The Turbo S is the model that returns up to 751hp, that searing 0-62mph in 2.8 seconds and a top speed of 162mph, but if you’re buying, you’ll need the budget for it.

Other versions are plenty fast and powerful enough for most. The Taycan 4S – one up from the entry level model – can hit 0-62mph in 4.0 seconds, with a top speed of 155mph. Next up, the GTS improves that 0-62mph to just 3.7 seconds.

Those figures are for the saloon Taycan, but the Sport Turismo and Cross Turismo don’t vary much at all. On the 4S trim, the Cross Turismo records 4.1 seconds for 0-62mph, the Sport Turismo 4.0.

Porsche offers a vast selection of options and packs for the Taycan too, so bear in mind that certain used models might have some of these fitted. This could nudge up the price, but you’ll be buying a more complete version of the Taycan as a result. Remote ParkAssist, Adaptive Cruise Control, Driver Memory Package and LED Matrix main headlights are all among optional extras.
