Used Porsche 718 Cayman Petrol Cars For Sale

With the 718 Cayman, Porsche has made the dream of owning and driving a sports car more achievable. The Porsche 718 Cayman is the brand’s entry level model – though it still leaves many rivals trailing in its turbo-charged wake.

Porsche launched the Cayman in 2006 as a two seater coupé. The first generation of model was coded as the Cayman 987.1, with the second generation (987.2) following in 2009. An updated model (981) was produced from 2014 to 2016, before the fourth generation 718 Cayman (982) arrived in 2017, offering more powerful engines and design enhancements.

If you’re set on buying a used Porsche, the 718 Cayman is a great choice. It’s the perfect first Porsche model as it has a lower starting price than other cars from the iconic manufacturer, making it more affordable, with no compromise on quality.

Make no mistake, this is a superb car to drive, with precise handling and sharp acceleration. It may be positioned below the Porsche 911 in the brand’s line-up, but it drives just as impressively.

Performance varies depending on the engine and model variant, though the entry-level Cayman’s 2.0-litre engine delivers 300HP, 0-62mph acceleration of 5.1 seconds, and a top speed of 170mph.

Move upwards through the range to one of the 4.0-litre engine versions and you’ll gain more power and speed. Both seven-speed PDK automatic transmission and six-speed manual gearboxes are available.

The Porsche 718 Cayman is a two-door, two-seater coupé that cleverly maximises available interior space. Those front seats can be adjusted electronically, so both driver and passenger are able to get comfortable.

Alacantra Race-Tex sports seats are the entry-level standard with the Cayman, though there are options to choose partial leather with Race-Tex or just leather, so your used Porsche may come with either of these fitted instead.

While there aren’t any rear seats, there are two boots in used Porsche Cayman models – one in the front, and one at the back. Here’s where luggage, bags, and other bits and bobs can be stored, leaving the interior free. The front boot has a capacity of 150 litres, and the larger rear boot 272.

The fourth generation Cayman has an infotainment system that uses a 7-inch touchscreen. Apple CarPlay is standard (on models from 2017 onwards), and there’s also built-in sat nav. Porsche’s options list includes upgraded sound systems – Bose and Burmester – so check the spec list on any used model you view and one of these could already be fitted.

Standard safety kit includes airbags for the front seats, side impact protection and parking sensors. With a much wider range of safety and driver assistance systems available from the Porsche options list, some used models may have extra equipment in place.

If you’re planning to buy a used Porsche 718 Cayman, you’ll have a choice of engines and trim levels. The Cayman is also available in a range of model variants, giving buyers the opportunity to choose a car that suits them perfectly.

The Cayman range includes the standard 718 Cayman, the Cayman S, Cayman T, and Cayman GTS 4.0.

The base model Cayman has a four-cylinder, 2.0-litre engine that delivers 300hp and 0-62mph in 5.1 seconds, and a top speed of 170mph. If the car’s fitted with the optional Sport Chrono package and PDK automatic transmission, you can expect to get that time down to around 4.7 seconds.

The Cayman T is equipped with the same engine, and performance is the same as the standard Cayman. The exterior, with body-coloured vertical struts on the front apron and black grilles, is different to the standard Cayman though, and it also has 20-inch light-alloy wheels. Fitted with Porsche Active Suspension (PASM) as standard, it has lowered suspension compared to other Cayman models.

Moving upwards through the range, the Cayman S is more powerful, and faster, than the Cayman and Cayman T. It has a 2.5-litre engine capable of 350hp, and it’s noticeably quicker from a standing start, hitting 0-62mph in 4.6 seconds. Top speed is 177mph.

Faster still is the GTS, thanks to its beefy six-cylinder 4.0-litre engine that powers out 400hp. Acceleration from 0-62mph can hit 4.5 seconds, while the 718 Cayman GTS 4.0 can reach a maximum speed of 182mph.

Want more? The Porsche Cayman also comes in a GT4 RS version, which sports racetrack styling and performance to match. Finding a GT4 RS for sale is relatively rare, but if you have the budget, and the need for a Porsche that produces 500hp and does 0-62mph in 3.4 seconds, it’s worth waiting for.

When you’re viewing used Porsche 718 Cayman models for sale, check the spec list. Porsche has a lengthy selection of options and packs available on the Cayman. If you’re buying new, you can choose these before taking delivery but with used cars options may have already been added.

Look out for features including 20-inch Carrera alloy wheels, leather upholstery, fully electric sports seats with memory function, ParkAssist and adaptive cruise control. While these will add to the overall price of your used Porsche, you’ll be buying a more complete car.
