Porsche has released the official teaser for the brand new all-electric Macan. With a focus on aerodynamics and design, this could be one of Porsche’s best models to date.
The all-electric Macan is an exciting new chapter of development that Porsche has undertaken, with this SUV being considerably more sporty, whilst being extremely efficient.
This model of Macan has gone through the most rigorous of testing to enhance the performance substantially. Porsche engineers have put every last effort into ensuring this SUV performs even in the harshest of conditions. To date, the prototypes of the all-electric Macan have completed more than three and a half million test kilometres on test tracks and public roads.
As Porsche is known for its driving components, the importance of testing the ‘feel’ of the car over different terrains is non-negotiable. “We cover all temperature ranges. From minus 30 degrees Celsius in Scandinavia to plus 50 degrees Celsius, as we experienced in Death Valley in California,” stated Jörg Kerner, Vice President Product Line Macan.
The engineers and designers worked hand-in-hand to ensure the identity of the Macan remained, and at the same time, the aerodynamics were in place within the design to allow the car to sustain a high range and high efficiency.
Known for high performance, comfort, and luxury, the Macan has a keen focus on driving dynamics, which by Porsche standards is breath-taking. With an output of 420 KW (the equivalent to 563 bhp) and 0-62mph in under 4 seconds, there is a lot to be admired in this new stage of Porsche manufacturing.
Following on from that, the engineers have deployed a Porsche Active Suspension Management system with two-valve damper technology, air suspension, rear-axle transverse lock and, for the first time, rear-axle steering with a steering angle of up to five degrees.
To maximise the performance, the state-of-the-art Porsche wind tunnel was used to guarantee every millimetre was correctly balanced between aesthetics and function.
“There are different charging standards in our main markets. A major focus of the testing has therefore been on checking these different framework conditions in the different locations with our prototypes and adapting the technology accordingly where necessary. Charging simply has to work, wherever and whenever,” says Kerner.
The new Macan's electric motors are powered by a 100 kWh lithium-ion battery in the underbody, with up to 95 kWh actively usable. Its 800-volt PPE architecture supports high-performance fast charging, reaching up to 270 kW at 800-volt stations.
Charging from 10 to 80 percent takes under 22 minutes at 400-volt stations, thanks to a battery switch enabling efficient 150 kW charging without an HV booster. AC charging is possible at up to 11 kW. As one of the most aerodynamic SUVs, it achieves ranges of over 500 km for all variants according to WLTP.
The new all-electric Macan will be available in a wide range of striking colours, including paint to sample. Register your interest by contacting your local Porsche Centre in Bristol, Newport, Swindon or Tewkesbury.
