Porsche recently reported a “performance Cayenne” had set a new lap record on the Nürburgring. The series production Cayenne set a new record in the 'SUV, off-road vehicle, van, pick-up’ category for a full lap over a distance of 20.832 kilometres on the legendary Nürburgring Nordschleife in just 7:38.925 minutes.

We didn’t have to wait long before we found out that the model in question was the Cayenne Turbo GT. Hailed by Porsche as a “new sporting hero”.  The four-litre biturbo V8 engine of the Cayenne Turbo GT is currently Porsche’s most powerful eight-cylinder unit. The Turbo GT has undergone extensive adaptations to improve performance from the previous Turbo model; 90 PS more powerful, 0.6 seconds quicker on a 0-100 km/h sprint and 17 millimetres lower than the Cayenne Turbo Coupé. The aim is to deliver superb racetrack capability.

The new Cayenne Turbo GT starts from £143,910. The chassis and powertrain have been calibrated to ensure harmony between the many systems, and the make-up of the car for optimum handling and performance. The Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), Power Steering Plus and rear-axle steering have also been adapted specifically to suit the Cayenne Turbo GT, to give better road handling and higher speeds when cornering.

The new Cayenne model also brings with it a new exterior colour of Arctic Grey, and has Neodyme detailing which you might recognise from the Boxster 25 year edition. Neodyme can be seen on the 22-inch GT Design wheels and GT Turbo stitching on the headrests, whilst the use of Alcantara and Carbon are also used to add to the occasion of this special model. GT-specific design cues can also be found on the front apron and enlarged air intakes, and at the rear of the Cayenne, the contoured carbon roof and extendable rear spoiler.

The Cayenne Turbo GT also has a new infotainment system which has had updates to improve performance. Porsche Communication Management 6.0 will still be compatible with Apple CarPlay and now allows for full integration of Apple Music and Podcasts. Additionally, the latest upgrade includes Android Auto, so that all popular smartphones can now be used on the Porsche system.
