10 facts about the Porsche Taycan you might not know

The Porsche Taycan was the first all-electric Porsche released back in 2020 and following its incredible demand, variants of the Taycan included the Taycan Cross Turismo and Taycan Sport Turismo. The all-electric Porsche is full of incredible technological advancements and industry-leading aspects that people often forget about.

Following the celebration of the Porsche Taycan and Taycan Cross Turismo winning the 2023 WhatCar? Awards for their outstanding electric car performance, we felt it fitting to tell you some of the reasons as to why the all-electric Taycan stands out from the crowd and some facts people might not already know:

1. Dual-Speed Tranmission

The Taycan's dual-speed transmission allows for smoother and quicker acceleration at low speeds while providing more efficient cruising at high speeds, unlike many other electric vehicles that only use a single speed gearbox.

2. Taycan Turbo S

The Porsche Taycan Turbo S is the fastest of all the Taycan models with an acceleration of 0-60 MPH in just 2.6 seconds, delivering 750 HP through 2 x Permanent Magnet Synchronous motors.

3. Recuperation Technology

The Porsche Taycan can recuperate up to 90-percent of the braking energy.

4. Active Aerodynamics

The Taycan rear spoiler adjusts automatically to improve aerodynamics and stability according to speed and driving conditions.

5. 800 Volt System Voltage

The Taycan is the first car with a system voltage of 800 volts, double what is used for general electric cars. This achieves high performance, a reduced charging time, and lowers the weight and space required for the high-voltage cables.

6. Plug & Charge

The Plug & Charge function provides charging convenience, encrypted communication is established between your Taycan and the compatible charging station to allow for cardless and app-less payment.

7. Business Benefits 

Depending on your circumstances, if you purchase a Taycan through a business, you could benefit from a 25% Corporation Tax saving on the price of the car, plus only 2% benefit-in-kind tax.

8. Charging Time

The charging time for 5% to 80% SoC (state of charge) is 22.5 minutes in ideal conditions with a maximum charging capacity of up to 270 kW.

9. Ionity Superfast Chargers

With the Porsche charging service activated, you can benefit from a reduced rate of £0.30p per Kwh at Ionity superfast chargers.

10. Air Suspension

The air suspension option includes a Smart Lift function. This allows you to easily programme the vehicle to automatically raise the ride height at certain recurring locations, such as speed bumps or garage driveways.
