Porsche Taycan

The debut of the very first electric Porsche – the Taycan

The eagerly anticipated Porsche Taycan is a real game changer. Yes, it has all the smart, minimalist design, power and agility of a Porsche, but it’s missing the familiar roar of the trademark flat 6 petrol engine. Why? Because the Taycan is Porsche’s first electric car and it doesn’t disappoint.

An awesome range of technical innovations guarantee outstanding acceleration, sports car traction power and superior power output equivalent to 600 bhp. In fact, the Taycan is more powerful than any other electric vehicle in production. With a top speed of 155mph, the Taycan glides from 0-62mph in under 3.5 seconds and hits 124mph in around 12.5 seconds.

This unrivalled performance is produced by the first use of an 800-volt system, instead of the normal 400. The 800V architecture powers two permanently excited synchronous motors (PSMs) electric motors with the design, function and excellent thermal behaviour to deliver the high performance so typical of Porsche.

Porsche Taycan

Far reaching electric performance

With any electric vehicle, performance is as much about distance as it is speed. And once again the Porsche Taycan holds its own with a range of up to 310 miles on a full charge. The lithium-ion battery, with around 90 kWh gross capacity, can be recharged in just four minutes, enough to keep the Porsche Taycan running for up to 62 miles (according to NEDC).

Porsche’s first electric car can be recharged slowly at home from a standard electricity supply, or much faster at a rapid charger. Porsche is also introducing its own Turbo-Charger network of public chargers, which will provide enough charge for 249 miles in just 20 minutes.

Endurance tested across the globe

Around 1,000 test drivers, technicians and engineers have put Porche’s first electric vehicle through its paces using various charging technologies around the world and in the some of the most challenging environments. From China to the United Arab Emirates, the USA and Finland, at temperatures from 50⁰ Celsius down to minus 35⁰, 20 - 100% air humidity and altitude of 85 metres below to 3,000 metres above sea level. Altogether the Taycan has covered around six million kilometres, two million of which were endurance run.

A true sports car

The four-seater Taycan is comfortably roomy but is undeniably a sports car. Sitting neatly between the Porsche 911 and Panamera in style and design, its sleek profile features a typically Porsche bonnet line and four doors. The smaller size of the electric motor allows for a lower, more svelte bonnet, sweeping back to an elegant, road-hugging profile. It also allows a generous amount of luggage space for such a compact car.

The dashboard includes a floating, 3D digital driver display, and a second display with eye-tracking and gesture control technology.
