Reflecting on 2024 with The Lovett Foundation

As 2024 draws to a close, we take a moment to reflect on what Dick Lovett have achieved through our chosen charity, the Lovett Foundation throughout the year. From engaging community events to impactful partnerships, the team have worked hard this year to support local communities and create meaningful connections.

A Year of Memorable Events

The Lovett Foundation’s calendar was packed with activities that brought teams together while raising funds and awareness for worthy causes. The year began with a delightful Valentine’s Day Bake Sale, where Jaguar Land Rover Melksham were crowned the winners, and took home the coveted Star Baker Trophy for 2024.

As the warmer months arrived, the foundation embraced the season with a Summer Dress Day. Employees donned their finest garden party attire, contributing donations to support our charitable work.

Five-a-side football tournament. Made possible with a grant from MINI Big Love. 16 teams from all over Dick Lovett group. BMW Swindon were the winners.

The inaugural Golf Day at Henbury Golf Club in October offered a chance for friendly competition among 35 players from across the Dick Lovett group. And in the same month, the fitness enthusiasts among us participated in the “Row the Sites” challenge, rowing as many miles as possible in a day with invaluable support from Pure Gym and Newport Live. Aston Martin Bristol clinched victory in this energising event.

The year also saw our employees come together at the Cars and Coffee event in Melksham, where they admired the stunning new “BMW Retail Next” showroom. This gathering allowed team members to share their passion for cars and take part in an exciting raffle featuring car-themed prizes.

November brought a focus on professional development and innovation with the Newport Networking Event at the Porsche Centre Newport. Attendees gained insights into the Lovett Foundation, electric vehicle technology, and our newly opened centre.

Recognition and Partnerships

The Lovett Foundation’s efforts did not go unnoticed. At the BMW and MINI Retailer of the Year Awards, we were celebrated for our exceptional charity work and sustainability initiatives. We were thrilled to be recognised for the MINI Big Love Award.

This year, we have been lucky to partner with Homewards and were invited to discuss ways that businesses can have an impact on the local community. It was a privilege to discuss ways we hope to bring noticeable change to Newport with His Royal Highness, Prince William.

Our partnerships have been at the heart of our mission. We continued to support Newport Live’s Cwtch at Christmas campaign and collaborated with Empire Fighting Chance on their Box Careers programme and Summer Hub Sessions. Young people benefitted from workplace visits hosted by the Lovett Foundation and Porsche, gaining valuable insights into future career possibilities.

In a significant commitment to fostering opportunities, we pledged £20,000 annually over the next five years to support the Wiltshire Community Foundation’s Care Leavers Programme. We also proudly sponsored a young person to participate in the transformative Youth Adventure Trust programme for three years.

Volunteers

We have brilliant support for the Lovett Foundation from our team at Dick Lovett, each site has a Co-Ordinator, who we could not operate without!

We were also lucky enough to have some fantastic help from volunteers around the group who organised events or carried out their own fundraising. Our teams have walked, run and even been off-roading in efforts to raise funds this year!  A team from our Personnel department completed Wiltshire 3 Peaks, and we had keen runners in our team who took on the Gloucester 10K and the Dragon’s Back Race as separate challenges.

Donations

In Spring we got into the spirit of Easter, with Easter Egg collections which were donated to local food banks and our partner charities.

In November and December, our teams co-ordinated food collections and deliveries for their local food banks. Christmas presents were also given to Newport Council to benefit care-experienced individuals, reflecting our commitment to supporting vulnerable members of our community.

With an eye on the future, the Lovett Foundation is excited about the opportunities that 2025 holds. Together, we aim to achieve even greater impact in the years to come.

To everyone who supported our journey this year—whether through volunteering, fundraising, or participating in events—we extend our heartfelt thanks. It is your dedication that fuels our work and enables us to transform lives. Here’s to an even brighter future.
