Dick Lovett proudly supports the Motability Car Scheme and provides a range of BMW and MINI vehicles to help eligible individuals maintain their mobility and independence.
The Motability Scheme offers worry-free motoring through an affordable lease plan that covers comprehensive insurance, breakdown assistance, and maintenance. This all-inclusive and cost-effective solution provides peace of mind for those who qualify. Better still, you’ll get a new car every 3 years with a 60,000 mileage allowance.
With the Scheme, your choice of vehicle isn't restricted. Choose from three and five-door options, saloons, SUVs and 4-wheel drive options, as well as hatchbacks and manual and automatic models.
A number of BMW’s models are included, such as the spacious BMW 1 Series and the stylish BMW X2. The new MINI range which is fun to drive, easy to park and offers ample boot space is also a great option. You can also have your vehicle adapted to suit your exact needs and requirements.

Once you have confirmed your eligibility for the Motability Scheme, the next step is searching for a vehicle that meets your needs. At Dick Lovett, our friendly experts are available to assist you in finding the perfect car and identifying any necessary adaptations to ensure it's the right fit for you.
Funding your new Motability vehicle involves exchanging your mobility allowance. While you can exchange all or part of your allowance, most vehicles on the scheme will require you to use all of it. The amount you pay will depend on your allowance, and in some cases, an Advance Payment may be necessary. This covers the cost between your Mobility allowance and the total cost of your lease and is made as a one-off, non-refundable payment. Optional extras will also incur additional charges.
Once you've collected your vehicle, payments are deducted every four weeks from your motability allowance and go straight to Motability, making the payment process simple and hassle-free. These payments cover the cost of the car, insurance, servicing, repairs and breakdown recovery. You just need to pay for fuel.
Your lease typically lasts three years, or five years if you have a Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle (WAV) and when your lease ends, you have the option to lease another vehicle, keep your current vehicle for longer, or return your vehicle and have your mobility allowance reinstated.
The Motability Scheme offers a range of benefits, including:

To join the Motability Scheme, you must receive one of the following disability allowances with at least 12 months remaining when you apply - if you have less, you'll need to wait until your allowance provider renews your allowance:
You cannot apply if you receive a lower rate or component of mobility allowance, or Attendance Allowance. If you receive DLA and have been instructed by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) to apply for PIP, you also cannot apply. You won’t be affected if you already have a Motability vehicle.
Parents of children (from the age of three) and non-drivers can apply to join, but the vehicle must be used by, or for the benefit of, the disabled person.

If you or someone you care for is disabled, you might be wondering whether the Motability Car Scheme is worth it.
The answer to that would be yes! With no hidden costs and a wide range of vehicles to choose from, all you need to worry about is paying for fuel.
Buying a car on your own can be challenging, with additional expenses like breakdown cover, servicing, insurance, and adaptations. The Motability Scheme simplifies everything and provides a sense of security. Plus, at the end of your lease (typically 3 years), you can trade in for a new car.
Overall, the Motability Scheme offers a fantastic solution for disabled individuals and their carers looking to enhance their mobility and independence.

The Advance Payment is a fixed upfront payment required for certain vehicles, in addition to your weekly mobility allowance.
This payment is non-refundable and is determined when you order your car based on factors such as the vehicle's cost, maintenance, and expected value at the end of the lease. It is required because your mobility allowance may not fully cover the cost of larger or more expensive vehicles.
The payment is made in one lump sum directly to your Motability Scheme dealer, either before or on the day you receive your vehicle.

You can add up to three drivers on your motability lease. Two can be added during your application, and the third can be added at any time during your lease. You can also change the listed drivers as needed.
Each driver must meet RSA Motability's eligibility criteria and adhere to the Scheme's policies, and hold a valid driving licence. RSAM will require their licence number, date of birth, and any motoring convictions. It's important to note that the vehicle must be used for the benefit of the disabled person, even if they are not present in the car for every journey or listed as a driver.
Only drivers listed on the Certificate of Motor Insurance will be authorised to drive the vehicle. And those who have certain motoring convictions, licence endorsements, fixed penalty notices or disqualifications within the last five years will not be eligible to drive your vehicle.
