Why buy a Used MINI Electric or Hybrid Car?

A MINI with a difference. A used MINI Electric or Hybrid car is a move away from the traditional combustion engine vehicle (ICE) and towards electric power. Go for a MINI Electric (BEV) and drive on 100% battery power, or a MINI Countryman plug-in electric hybrid (PHEV), which pairs a petrol engine with an electric motor. This means you can switch between the engine and the motor, depending on the type of journey you’re making – you have the flexibility to drive the way you like.

Both the MINI Electric and MINI Countryman PHEV are inspiring models, providing that zippy acceleration and almost go-kart like agile handling that MINI is famous for, but with reduced – or zero, in electric mode – driving emissions.

Whether you opt for a MINI Electric or MINI Countryman Plug-in Hybrid, you’ll be impressed with the sporty exterior styling and the interior comfort and tech. MINI’s excellent infotainment system is accessible via the 6.5-inch or 8.8-inch screen (size subject to model year), which can be operated by touch or by the rotary dial positioned conveniently between the two front seats.

On selected models, sat nav and Apple CarPlay is available, as is the MINI Connected system. If your model is fitted with eDrive Service, which is optional and part of MINI Connected, you can drive smartly by selecting Green Route.

This provides you with the most energy-efficient route available to you on every journey. Battery range and charging status is also displayed, as well as the next available charging station – so you never need to worry about running out of juice when on the road.

*Key features of used MINI Electric and Hybrid models can include:

  • MINI Navigation System
  • Rear parking sensors
  • Heated front seats
  • Automatic air conditioning
  • Cruise control
  • Multifunction controls on steering wheel
  • Roof rails
  • MINI Driving modes
  • Sport leather steering wheel
  • DAB Radio
  • LED headlights

The MINI Electric models have space for four people and the Plug-in hybrid Countryman models have space for five people. There aren’t any rear doors in the MINI Electric, so passengers in the rear need to access the car by sliding forward the front seats. The Countryman hybrid does have rear doors.

There’s a difference in boot space, too. The boot is larger in a used MINI Countryman hybrid, with 405 litres of capacity, compared to 211 litres in the MINI Electric. Fold the rear seats down in the MINI Electric and that space expands out to 731 litres, so it’s easy to get the extra capacity as and when you need it.

There’s a great selection of safety tech and driving assistance on electric and plug-in hybrid MINI models. On the MINI Electric, rear parking sensors, six airbags and a reversing camera all come as standard; selected Countryman models have similar features and all cars come with automatic emergency braking.

Optional packs like the Driving Assistant System add more features, including forward collision warning and pedestrian warning. Explore our latest offers on used MINI Electric and used MINI hybrid cars at Dick Lovett MINI.

Tips & Advice for Buying a Used MINI Electric or Hybrid Car

The key question here is – how do you want to drive? All-electric, or with the choice of switching between a petrol engine and electric power?

With the MINI Electric, it’s all about straight-up electric power. It has a 32.6kWh battery and performance is impressive. The MINI Electric can go from 0-62mph in just 7.3 seconds. Top speed is 93 mph, so it’s a comfortable motorway cruiser, too.

The battery range is up to 145 miles, so the MINI Electric is easily capable of covering the distance on a single charge. When the vehicle does need charging, it’s quick and simple – especially if you use a rapid charging station.

There are three types of used MINI Electric models available, each offering different levels of spec – Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3. Level 3 is the best equipped.

If you prefer a used MINI with an engine as well as an electric motor, the Countryman Plug-in hybrid delivers both in fine style. It’s four-wheel drive with an automatic transmission, and the 1.5-litre engine produces 222hp in tandem with the electric motor.

Acceleration is fast, recording 0-62mph in 6.8 seconds, so it’s marginally speedier than the MINI Electric. Top speed is 122mph.

The joy of a used MINI hybrid is that you can switch to all-electric mode for shorter drives, preserving fuel and improving economy. It has three different driving modes, so you can alternate between them as needed. The battery range is up to 30 miles when fully charged, and can be recharged through regenerative braking when driving. To fully charge the battery, simply plug the car into mains power.

While the MINI Electric comes in a choice of three different ‘levels’, the MINI Countryman Plug-in hybrid has three available ‘trim’ levels.

The entry or base level trim is the Classic, followed by the Sport, and the Exclusive. The standard spec with the Classic includes cruise control, LED headlights and 16 or 17-inch alloy wheels. Sport upgrades to 18 or 19-inch alloys and has an overall sportier look, including John Cooper Works sport seats and aerodynamic kit.

The Exclusive delivers a luxury experience, with leather sports seats and a leather steering wheel among the features.
