School’s out! Or perhaps it’s the weekend? Either way, it’s time to pack a hamper for a MINI adventure with the kids.

Here are our top five MINI drives that combine interesting, twisty or thrilling roads with fantastic destinations that are less than 90 minutes from one of our Dick Lovett MINI showrooms.
Compton Abbas Airfield, near Shaftesbury
An hour’s drive from our Bath showroom or a bit more from our Hungerford base, make sure the route takes in Zig-Zag Hill (B3081). Your MINI will come into its own tackling a mile of hairpin bends reminiscent of Alpine country!
The airfield sits atop Compton Down on the edge of Cranborne Chase. Watch light aircraft take-off as the family enjoy milkshakes, coffees and cake in the café.
Wye Valley, Chepstow to Monmouth
Kids will love a blast on the M48 Severn Bridge followed by the winding A466 that carves its way through the deep wooded gorge of the River Wye from Chepstow to Monmouth. Highlights en route include the ruins of Tintern Abbey.
Return towards Bristol via Trellech on the B4293 to stretch the legs with a walking trail through the village that takes in Bronze Age standing stones and a country pub.
Burham-on-Sea via Cheddar.
Just over an hour’s drive from Bath. The promise of fish and chips or ice-cream on the beach is always a crowd-pleaser!
Head for the coast via the Mendip Hills being sure to drive the S-bend thrills of Cheddar Gorge before you hit the Somerset Levels for a leisurely drive to the seaside. Perfect for a sunny day’s adventure in the MINI Convertible.
Cotswolds – Minchinhampton
From Swindon, head north-west towards the rolling hills of the Cotswolds and the hilltop town of Minchinhampton.
Feel your MINI’s Twin Power Turbo engine make light work of the super steep roads that lead up to the National Trust owned Minchinhampton Common. Take a walk followed by a pit-stop at one of the town’s many characterful and child-friendly pubs.
North Wessex Downs – Avebury
Less than a half hour drive from Swindon or Hungerford, the North Wessex Downs is officially an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).
Take in views across open downlands and experience shadowy tunnels of ancient woodland, schedule a stop at Avebury. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is great for kids because you’re free to touch its ancient standing stones.
