The next stage in the electrification of the MINI brand has finally arrived. Since the MINI E pilot project ten years ago it’s been through concept stages, industry events, and rigorous public testing - but now the first all-electric MINI is primed to shake up the electric vehicle market.
MINI drivers have long been waiting for an all-electric incarnation of the beloved MINI hatch. The result is an electric MINI with all the fun, styling and performance of the MINI Cooper S - so called the MINI Cooper SE. It’s a pleasingly easy ride with receptive acceleration and razor-sharp responsiveness, both thanks to to the hi-tech battery.
It launches, fast, and without a hint of wheelspin or, more telling, spot braking of either front wheel.
Unlike concept models, the new MINI Electric houses its battery at the front of the vehicle, so the three-door structure manages to fit in rear seats and boot space as comfortably as the rest of the MINI family. The battery boasts a 120-mile range, making this new electric MINI ideal for regular daily journeys on a single overnight charge.
Is the new MINI Electric the most envied electric car on the market?
MINI is a marque that’s admired the world over - from the iconic MINI design to the instantly-recognisable Union Jack rear lights. With the arrival of the first MINI electric model, could it become the most sought-after all-electric vehicle?
The 181bhp motor gives you power and speed, underlined by a recuperation system that stores energy generated by deceleration. It switches between two different modes to store more or less energy upon slowing down, ensuring you get the optimal driving experience from your electric MINI. You’ll also hit 0-60mph in around 7 seconds and enjoy a top speed of around 95mph.
The MINI Cooper SE is testament to how far battery technology has come in the last decade.

You’re guaranteed to make an impression in the new electric MINI Electric: its body sits slightly higher than other MINI models to keep the battery safe, while the rear bumper features no exhaust, so it’s smooth and clean. The front profile is just as precise, with a seamlessly flush, closed grille that’s promised to be available in colours that contrast against the bodywork.
Inside, the clean and smart interior retains the perfect proportions of other MINI models despite playing host to the powerful battery. You can expect this MINI electric model to retain the family’s built-in widescreen infotainment system as well as fine detailing on the upholstery and a range of driving tech that includes switchable driving modes.
