JUST DOWN THE ROAD FROM DICK LOVETT
Minis from far and wide will be descending on Washingpool Farm, Bristol, for the event which takes place from 8th-12th August next year - and it’s literally just down the road from our Dick Lovett MINI Bristol Centre and closely located to Dick Lovett MINI Bath, Swindon and Hungerford. We have the largest selection of MINIs in the South West.
That’s because we’re as passionate about MINIs as our customers are and why we’re thrilled to be able to sponsor the 2019 IMM, the same year as the official 60th anniversary of this incredibly fun and versatile British car. A MINI HISTORY
First born out of necessity for fuel economy following the Suez Crisis in 1956, the Mini was launched in 1959 with a one-litre engine. This was deemed to be far too sporty and was scaled back to a more respectable 848cc!
Thankfully, racing driver John Cooper saw the potential of these great little cars as their low centre of gravity gave them superb handling and outstanding dynamics.
The rest is, quite literally history, as John Cooper’s revamped Mini was pitted in a race against an Aston Martin DB4 at Monza - and beat the Aston Martin by a full hour! The Mini Cooper went on to dominate the rally circuit, winning Monte Carlo in 1964, 1965 and 1967.
But it’s not just JCW’s models. Minis and MINIs come in all shapes and sizes thanks to enthusiasts who have both lovingly restored older classics or customised their own vehicles to make them real one-off special editions and collector’s items.
MINI MEET COMES BACK TO THE UK
The IMM itself has a proud history and first took place in Germany 40 years ago. It’s become a truly international event and most recently has been held in Portugal, Ireland and Belgium. But the rules state it must be held in the UK every five years in honour of the birthplace of the Mini.
MINIS both old and new are welcome to attend the IMM, which is supported by official MINI and Mini clubs from across the globe, including Mini Asociados Mexico, Mini Fun Club Belgium, Shasta Minis in California, the Mini Seven Club Sweden and our very own local Gert Lush Mini, to name but a very small handful.
COME ALONG AND SEE FOR YOURSELF
The IMM site opens at midday on the Thursday, 8th August, for people to roll up and pitch their tents with the main events taking place on the Friday, Saturday and Sunday. This includes competitions, live music and entertainment, trade stalls and boot sale.
Food, drink and bar areas will also be available and campers are welcome to stay right through until the Monday, 12th August, when the site closes. And don’t forget children under 16 can attend for free and there’s no charge for camping either.
