Benefits of getting your MINI MOT with Dick Lovett
Book your MINI MOT with Dick Lovett
Dick Lovett is an official MINI dealership, with technicians who have been approved and trained by MINI, so there’s no better place to book your MOT.
We can look after the whole MOT process from start to finish. If our technicians have detected any repair work needed and you authorise the work to be completed, we’ll take care of everything – and only use genuine MINI parts. All MINI parts come with a two year warranty, and we’ll even include a free wash and vacuum before returning the vehicle to you, so it’ll be in its best possible condition.
We also understand that bringing your MINI in for an MOT can be an inconvenience, so we want to make things as easy as possible. If you prefer to wait at one of our dealerships while the MOT is taking place, you can do so in comfort, enjoying free Wi-Fi and refreshments while our technicians get to work.
When does my MINI car need its first MOT?
Your MINI will need its first MOT when it’s three years old – a new model is exempt from MOTs until reaching its third anniversary.
If you buy a new MINI, it comes with a product called MINI MOT Protect. This provides you with cover ahead of your MINI’s first MOT. Though it’s unlikely with a car of that age – especially one with a maintained full service history – should your MINI fail its first MOT test, with MINI MOT Protect we’ll take care of the cost of a wide range of repairs. Our technicians can fix any issues with the minimum of fuss, so you don’t need to worry about anything**.
How often do I need an MOT for my MINI car?
After your MINI has had its first MOT, it will need one every year to make sure it’s still roadworthy and has no faults that need repairing. An MOT is an annual test. The date of your MINI MOT will be 12 months from the date of the previous year’s test – though you can book it slightly earlier (up to a month, minus a day), you must get it booked for a re-test by that date.

How much does a MINI MOT cost?
A MINI MOT with Dick Lovett costs just £54.85. For that price, your vehicle gets a full MOT inspection from technicians who have been approved, and trained, by MINI and have vast experience with the brand. No-one knows MINIs better than our team.
Any repair work that may be needed to resolve any faults or issues, and is required to achieve an MOT pass for your MINI, will cost extra. But our service team will talk to you about what’s needed before starting the work and with our 0% APR finance option, you can spread the cost if you prefer.
When the MOT is finished, we’ll wash and clean your MINI before you collect it, so it leaves us looking showroom fresh and good to go.

What if my car fails its MOT?
During an MOT, any defects or faults discovered with your vehicle will be categorised as either minor, major or dangerous. A major or dangerous fault will result in your car failing its MOT; minor faults won’t mean your car fails, but these will be recorded on your pass certificate and it’s your responsibility to monitor these and get them repaired. These are typically known as ‘advisories’.
If your car fails its MOT, you shouldn’t drive it. You could be fined up to £2,500, be banned from driving and get 3 penalty points for driving a vehicle that has failed its MOT because of a ‘dangerous’ problem.
If it’s failed with major faults, these need to be repaired before you can drive it again, though you are able to use your vehicle to drive to a garage for those repairs. You can also drive your car if you’ve had the MOT early and your current certificate is still valid – but you’ll need to get those repairs done, and re-tested, to get a new certificate.
If your car has failed its MOT because of dangerous problems, it can’t be driven at all until repairs are made. When your current MOT certificate has expired, you will need a new one to be able to continue to drive your car. It won’t be deemed legal and roadworthy until it passes.

Passing the MOT
A successful MOT inspection and pass results in you being given a test certificate, officially known as a VT20. Keep this safe as it’s your record and receipt of the inspection, and it will also note the date you’ll need to book your next MOT – no later than 12 months’ time. Your details will also be updated on the national MOT database.
We’ll also notify you when your MOT is due, plenty of time in advance, so you can quickly and conveniently arrange your MOT appointment with us.
