As a full plug-in hybrid it combines a 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with a 105kW electric motor for a maximum 398bhp and 772lb ft of torque. The addition of a 19.2kWh lithium-ion battery allows for an electric range of around 27 miles.

Hop inside and discover an interior that’s remarkably roomy thanks to the high ceilings. The driving position is lofty too allowing for a clear view of the road. Offering five seats as standard, the Defender 110 can be transformed into a seven-seater with two seats in the boot. The optional folding jump-seat in the centre of the front row also turns this explorer into a six-seat option.

Technology is to be admired too. There are plenty of driver aids as well as a new Pivi Pro infotainment system available in select models. This comes with either a 10 or 11.4-inch touchscreen. Hybrid models come with a central touchscreen that displays essential information such as charge levels and energy usage.
