In the crowded SUV market that we see today, selecting the right model for you can be a daunting task. However, Dick Lovett has made the choice easier by highlighting the key features of two of our favourite compact luxury SUVs: the Jaguar E-PACE and the Range Rover Evoque. But, the question remains, which SUV will be the best fit for you?

Want to make an entrance? Your arrival in either the elegant Jaguar E-PACE or the newly updated Range Rover Evoque will make heads turn. With its distinctive coupe-like silhouette, the new Range Rover Evoque has true Land Rover DNA. Whilst the assertive and dynamic E-PACE SUV takes inspiration from its sporty sibling, the Jaguar F-TYPE. Each of these stylish SUVs is satisfyingly exciting to drive, but which one is right for you?

Jaguar E-PACE vs. Range Rover Evoque:

Powertrains

Since the official launch of the E-PACE and Evoque, both brands have now also introduced additional powertrains. The Jaguar E-PACE plug-in electric hybrid combines award winning design and plug-in hybrid fuel economy. With an electric range of up to 34 miles, it is the perfect compact SUV. Charging the Jaguar E-PACE from zero to full using a 7.4kW charger will take just two hours. However, the E-PACE features rapid charging compatibility meaning you can get to 0-80% in as little as 30 minutes at a 50kW rapid charge point, keeping the E-PACE topped up with electric power quickly and conveniently.

Drive on pure electric or switch to petrol power with the new Range Rover Evoque plug-in electric hybrid. The Evoque is one of several models from Land Rover now available with electric and hybrid capability, enhancing refinement and sustainability. With the Evoque plug-in electric hybrid, you’re getting a superior SUV that embraces the very best of the brand, underpinned by plug-in hybrid technology to provide cleaner, quieter, smoother drive performance. Similar to the E-PACE, the Evoque will charge from home at a maximum rate of 7.4kW and is compatible with public rapid DC chargers with a 50kW rate taking just 30 minutes to fully charge.

Jagar E PACE and Range Rover Evoque Plug in Hybrid

Like most plug-in electric hybrid cars, both the E-PACE and Evoque use a Combined Charging System, so you can charge from home, overnight, and at any of the thousands of public charging stations. These are located all over the UK, at fuelling stations, car parks, retail parks, and even gyms. Charging times will vary depending on many factors, including but not limited to: the age, condition, temperature and existing charge of the battery; facility used and duration of charge.

Performance and Economy

If you’re looking for outright power and acceleration, then the plug-in hybrid P300e is the engine of choice for both E-PACE and Evoque. With 309hp, both models complete the 0-60mph sprint in 6.1 seconds, whilst the hybrid technology boosts fuel economy with up to 190+ mpg on the combined fuel cycle.

We appreciate a petrol plug-in hybrid may not be suitable for everyone, and with that, both Jaguar and Land Rover have you covered with various petrol and diesel options available as detailed in the tables above. Subject to what your priorities are, be that the perfect blend of performance and economy, or torque if you do a lot of towing, we’re confident you can find an engine option that perfectly matches your needs.

Handling

If you want a car that won't stop for anything, you'll appreciate the Range Rover Evoque's advanced off-road capabilities. It's great to drive on-road as well, but it really comes into its own off the beaten track thanks to features such as Land Rover’s Terrain Response 2 system, which automatically adapts to changes in conditions. The Evoque also has 8.3 inches of ground clearance and a wading depth of 23.6 inches. Its traction and engine output can be adjusted quickly to help you maintain momentum over grass, mud, sand, and other challenging surfaces.

Land Rover Evoque Off road

While the Jaguar E-PACE is certainly capable of driving off-road, it excels on the road with its sporty handling. Its All-Wheel-Drive with All-Surface Progress Control systems ensure impeccable road-holding abilities, while most models and trims are available with a dynamic adaptive suspension option that you can adjust to prioritise athletic handling or ride quality. The E-PACE is perfect for those who value a fun and sporty driving experience.

Design

The Jaguar E-PACE and Range Rover Evoque both flaunt sleek and stylish designs that are bound to attract attention on the road. The sporty and athletic appearance of the E-PACE comes with a low roofline and sculpted lines to give it a muscular stance. The Evoque on the other hand has a more sophisticated and refined look, with a distinctive silhouette that distinguishes it from other SUVs. They say beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and we know that if you choose to own either of these models, you will be driving one of the most stylish SUVs on the market today.
