What to expect at a Group Interview with Dick Lovett

For some of our roles, we will invite candidates to join us for a group interview. If you are looking to join us as an Apprentice, Sales Support, or Trainee, you might be asked to interview in this format. We want to meet with candidates in an exciting environment to showcase our fantastic facilities.

To some this may sound daunting, but to others the format might be less worrying than a 1-2-1 interview, so we have put together some helpful information of what to expect when you are joining us for a group interview.

What does a group interview involve?

You would join us with other candidates who have applied for the same role. We aim to make the events as enjoyable and informative as possible, in a more relaxed setting than a formal interview. We will deliver a range of tasks and exercises which allow us to get to know you better.

The sessions usually start with introductions to the interviewers, the brand, and Dick Lovett. Tasks would include group activities, problem solving, accuracy tests or discussion points. Interviews for our Workshop and Bodyshop positions might also include hands-on activities in a workshop setting.

All of the above exercises will allow us to assess your suitability to the role, as well as your behaviour and attitude towards the opportunity ahead of you. All tasks are related to the role we are interviewing for.

What are the benefits of a group interview setting?

We get to see how candidates interact in a group and meet with multiple candidates at the same time. It also allows you to use this setting to showcase your personality, skillset related to the role, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.

One of the best things about meeting with a group of candidates at once is that if you aren’t successful, or your skills are better suited to a different role, we are able to keep your CV on file and get back in touch with further opportunities to join the Group in the future.

Often, we are able to find multiple candidates at group interviews for various positions around the Group.

Which roles might involve a group interview?

We use this format for our Apprenticeship roles, our Sales Support, and Trainee roles.

For these roles, we aren’t looking for a set amount of experience, but instead want to hire someone with a transferrable skillset and enthusiasm for a new challenge.

In a group interview setting we can see how you work in a team, how you present yourself in a group, and assess things like attention to detail in a fair environment as everyone is in the same boat!

What happens next?

After the group interview, you would generally be invited to a 1-2-1 or extended interview at a later date. If you have not been successful, we will keep you in mind for other opportunities to work with us.

What is an extended interview?

An extended interview gives you the opportunity to experience what it would be like if you have the job you are applying for. You will spend time in the environment, meet the whole team, see the facilities, and experience the day-to-day life in the position you have applied for. These would usually be 2-3 hours long and sometimes include interviews with more senior managers.

How do you ensure a fair process?

Both at Dick Lovett, and at the brands we represent, we aim for an inclusive environment for our teams to work in and grow with us.

We are committed to providing a safe and respectful environment for all, including in the hiring process. We want to ensure the application process is accessible to everyone, so please let us know if you need any additional support throughout your application.

Some of the adjustments we have made to the process include extra time for assessments or individual assessments. We would be open to discussions about how we can fairly accommodate changes to the process so that everyone has the same opportunity to apply for their chosen career path.

We work very hard to ensure that our group interviews are fair and enjoyable for the attendees. If you are invited to join us, we hope that you would like to attend and find out more about working at Dick Lovett.
