The most powerful in the GS range, the BMW R 1200 GS is fully equipped for long-distance touring and is perfectly capable on rougher terrain, too. Rugged-looking and built with incredible German precision, this bike really is ready for anything.
The R 1200 GS neatly encompasses the spirit of sport, tourer and enduro by combining the ride height of an enduro with the comfort of a tourer and the dynamic profile of a sports bike. The iconic winking headlights remain on this latest version, reminding everyone that this is a GS. Behind the lights, the stylish and practical windscreen protects both rider and instruments. Further back, the bike displays its ultra-tough tubular chassis proudly.
Perfect positioning comes as standard on the entire GS range, allowing the rider to sit comfortably for long periods on or off-road. A bike as powerful as this is made with a pillion in mind, and to that end BMW Motorrad offers the bike with a host of extra comfort options, including an extended rear seat and pannier back rest. Extras come in many forms; choose between triple panniers, hand defenders, heated handlebars, fuel tank bags, extra engine protection and more.
With the biggest engine offered in the GS range, it should come as no surprise that this bike is incredibly powerful. Its 1,170cc capacity unit puts out a stellar 125Nm of torque and 125hp. This incredible power delivers a maximum speed in excess of 120mph. Whilst fuel consumption is not always the first thing on a rider's mind, it is worth noting that this bike achieves an impressive 57mpg, making it a worthy choice, even for the daily commute.
As with all BMW Motorrad bikes, the R 1200 GS has safety at its heart. It is equipped with front and rear ABS as standard. Also available is optional Dynamic ESA, which automatically configures the bike's suspension to meet the needs placed upon it by the road surface. All of this adds up to make the bike remarkably easy to ride and incredibly predictable in its behaviour. The addition of auxiliary headlights improves visibility for both the rider and traffic.
