The BMW X5 is a large SAV that is comfortable, practical and a real joy to drive.
It has a range of superb engines – diesel, petrol and a plug-in hybrid – that deliver quick acceleration and effortless motorway cruising. Air suspension, which adapts to road conditions, comes as standard. This is a premium car, and as such, delivers an enjoyable experience whether you’re behind the wheel or relaxing in the generously-spaced interior as a passenger.
The driver’s seat can be adjusted electronically – this is a standard feature across all used BMW X5 models, regardless of trim – so you can set your seating position exactly the way you prefer it. Once that’s been set, there’s no need to keep doing it again, as the memory function means the seat ‘remembers’ your body shape. Leather seating adds to the luxury feel, and the overall finish in the cabin is of a very high standard.
Head and leg room in the front and rear of the X5 is expansive; three adults can sit with no trouble at all in the back. And, if you need to accommodate more than five people, there is the option of upgrading to seven seats, via a third row of seating. Boot capacity is also large, at 650 litres, in all models except the plug-in hybrid version, which reduces to 500 litres. That’s still a decent size, but something to bear in mind when you’re making a buying decision.
The infotainment system in a used BMW X5 is superb. The 12.3-inch screen can be operated in three different ways. Touch the screen, use the rotary controller in the centre console, or opt for voice control. It works with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and with BMW Connected Services.
BMW X5 used models are fitted with a good selection of driver assistance and safety features, including a reversing camera and parking sensors at the front and rear to help drivers squeeze into tighter spaces with no worries.
