A UNIQUE DESIGN WITH A STORY TO TELL
It’s the first time BMW has taken a race car and converted it into a road-going sports car. It’s also a welcome return for the BMW 8 Series which has been missing from the garage line-up since 1999.
Star of the show will be the range-topping BMW M850i with a list of stats to make any supermodel jealous. Under the bonnet, there’s a revamped 4.4 litres twin-turbo V8. Total output is an eye-watering 523bhp, so just as well there’s a new-look eight-speed auto gearbox to keep control.
A new four-wheel drive system also keeps the driver firmly in control, with a set up which favours rear-wheel drive whenever possible.
And the most impressive stat? 0-60 in just 3.7 seconds. That’s faster than a standard V8 and V12 Aston Martin DB11. Top speed is limited to 155 mph.
Following on the heels of the BMW M850i will be a BMW 840d, with a turbo 3.0 litres diesel engine, 316bhp and a 0-60 time of 4.9 seconds.

STYLISH DESIGN WITH A SPORTY PRESENCE
The BMW 8 Series is also widely expected to set the new benchmark for all new BMWs in the style stakes, too. It’s got the slimmest headlights of any BMW on the road today, distinctive bonnet contours, a muscular shoulder-line and an additional front spoiler to minimise lift.
Active steering comes as standard, there are electric motors on the front and rear axles for roll stabilisation, active cruise control, multifunction leather Merino seats and a head-up display. And you’ll even be able to unlock it using your smartphone.
But for all its gadgets and sporty touches, the BMW 8 Series is still the epitome of luxury and elegance. It might embrace its racing heritage, but its heart beats with style, opulence and sophistication.
