The 2 Series Coupé brings a selection of different options to the table but remains an exhilarating drive whichever you choose. Various petrol engines are available, with the M2’s 3.0-litre twin turbo being the range-topper. Other than the M240i xDrive, which is all-wheel drive, all other variants possess the traditional rear-wheel drive powertrain associated with BMW Coupés.

All BMW 2 Series Coupés now come outfitted with BMW’s iDrive 8.5 infotainment system as standard. The 220i is the entry-level choice with 184 hp from its 2.0-litre petrol engine, offering a very respectable 41.5 - 44.1 combined mpg. The 230i variant utilises the same engine as the 220i but produces 245 hp while maintaining similar mpg figures. This is a great option that fits nicely between the performance-focused M240i and the entry-model 220i. Unfortunately, diesel 2 Series Coupé models are no longer available in the UK from new.

The M240i xDrive and M2 are the performance variants of the 2 Series Coupé, with the M2 being the most hardcore - 480 hp and 600 Nm of torque through the rear wheels only. With the option of a manual transmission as well, the M2 is a purist’s dream and the top choice if you want ultimate fun and performance.

The M240i xDrive is also incredibly quick, with 374 hp and 500 Nm, it excels in all conditions. Whilst not as powerful as the M2, its xDrive all-wheel drive capabilities and improved fuel economy make it a more versatile performance car for daily use.
