The premium SUV class has an impressive membership, but the BMW X3 – one of the originals – is still one of the best options available. On-road performance, engine power, safety, in-car tech, cabin and interior comfort – a used BMW X3 delivers on all levels.
For sheer driving pleasure, the X3 takes some beating compared to other SUVs. All used BMW X3 models are fitted with the xDrive all-wheel drive system as standard, and the car’s handling is sharp, precise, and responsive. This delivers a smooth, dynamic drive, and a comfortable one at that.
Engine power varies across the range, but with a choice of 2.0 litre, four-cylinder or 3.0 litre, six-cylinder engines, there really isn’t a weak spot here. Performance wise, top speed varies from 130 mph to 155 mph, depending on the model variant, as does 0-62 mph acceleration. The top of the range M40i can return figures of 4.9 seconds.
Inside, the X3 is no less impressive. The cabin layout and design is easy on the eye and some of the standard specifications enhance comfort. Features such as adjustable seating, and heated seats, are welcome functions, as is climate control.
One of the major highlights of BMW X3 used cars are the infotainment, tech and safety features. Sat nav, DAB radio, and Bluetooth connectivity is standard across the range, accessible via the 12.3-inch display screen – which can be operated by touchscreen or the rotary controller.
Safety features include six airbags, emergency braking, lane departure warning, and a collision warning system, though not all functions are included as standard and may only be available as options.
