The RT - meaning Reise-Tourer (travel tourer) - has been a staple model in BMW Motorrad’s line-up since the 1970s. The current model first arrived in 2014 and has enjoyed a highly successful six-year production run, but now it’s time to welcome the new R 1250 RT. Enjoyed by everyone from commuters, long distance travellers to professional riders, a new RT has to be all things to all people.

One of the most striking new features of the R 1250 RT is the new front end. Standard LED headlights and sharp daytime running lights emphasise the dynamic new lines of the R 1250 RT even further. The overall lower body height gives a better view of the road ahead, and improved air channels under the windshield further reduce buffeting when on the open road.

The new R 1250 RT features one of the largest TFT screens ever fitted to a motorcycle. It combines all the instruments with practical functions such as navigation and connectivity. The 10.25” wide screen includes the latest BMW Navigation built-in; doing away with the need for any additional devices when out riding. DAB radio or music from a smartphone can also be displayed on the screen and is controlled by the traditional Multi-Controller on the handlebars.

Dynamic Cruise Control (DCC) is fitted as standard, but the new R 1250 RT debuts BMW Motorrad’s latest optional Active Cruise Control (ACC) riding assistance system. Simply set a desired speed using a button on the handlebars and a radar sensor on the front of the bike determines the speed and the distance to the vehicle ahead. If this distance is reduced, the system automatically reduces the speed and re-establishes a safe distance. When the distance is increased again, the bike will speed up.

The improved 136 hp boxer engine with BMW ShiftCam Technology delivers superior performance, refinement and efficiency. For those looking for even greater efficiency, the new standard ‘Eco’ riding mode gives the best possible range from a full tank.

Want to keep your smartphone charged whilst out riding? Simply place it within the convenient waterproof storage compartment and the wireless charging base will charge your phone as you ride.

The new RT features the following BMW Motorrad latest technology as standard: Adjustable Electric Windscreen, Heated Grips, BMW ABS Pro, Dynamic Traction Control (DTC), Riding Modes, Centre Stand and Luggage Rack. Upgrade to the LE model to get a Chrome Exhaust, Adaptive Headlight with Daytime Running Lights, Central Locking System, Heated Seat, Keyless Ride and Gearshift Assist Pro.

To ensure the R 1250 RT really stands out, there’s a number of new colour schemes. The Elegance Style features Manhattan metallic paintwork with chrome details and white aluminium rims. Sport Style stands out with Racing blue metallic paint, graphics on the fairing and black rims.

Alpine White is the perfect colour to emphasise the striking, slimmer front end on the new RT. For those looking for the ultimate in exclusivity. there’s the Option 719 Mineral White metallic scheme that features exquisite pin striping and gold brake callipers.
