The DBX is Aston Martin’s first SUV, and the famous manufacturer has created a stunning car. This is a class-leading model that – unsurprisingly given Aston Martin’s heritage – drives like a sports car in the body of an SUV.
A mid-sized SUV, the DBX is very much pitched at the luxury end of the market, with a starting price to match. For that investment, owners get a high-end premium model with 4x4 capability, the space and practicality to satisfy the demands of family motoring, and superb handling quality. It’s fast, too – and that’s whether you choose the standard version or the 707.
The exterior is striking, typified by Aston Martin’s iconic front grille, which is the biggest ever featured on one of the brand’s vehicles. Smart design from Aston Martin has helped to make this SUV as sporty as possible, with concepts including the swan wing doors. These, also fitted on Aston Martin sports cars, open up and out.
The wheels are positioned as close to the corners of the wheelbase as possible, which gives the impression of a smaller, sportier car rather than a more traditional SUV.
It’s a joy to drive. The commanding driving position provides an excellent view of the road ahead, and the all-wheel drive system makes the DBX capable of thriving on different terrain and surfaces. Aston Martin has equipped the DBX with six drive modes – GT, Sport, Sport+, Individual, Terrain and Terrain+ – so it can handle just about any challenge.
The DBX drives like a sports car, with lots of raw power thanks to its big V8 4.0 litre engine and punchy acceleration. It’s a comfortable motorway cruiser and an agile performer on twisty roads.
