Spring is officially here and summer is on the way – time to take to the open road, let down your car's convertible roof and feel the wind in your hair behind the wheel of the beguiling new Aston Martin Vantage Roadster.
Okay, actually hitting the Roadster’s top speed of 190mph is not something you’re likely to achieve, unless you take it out on the track – but the Vantage Roadster provides the most thrilling of drives, at any pace and at every turn.
Nothing short of driving heaven
Utterly gorgeous it is,but there’s so much more to the Vantage Roadster than good looks. According to Aston Martin's top engineer, the Roadster offers precise, agile and expressive handling and fantastic straight-line performance. With the added bonus of driving a great-sounding sports car with the roof down. And Aston Martin president and CEO, Dr Andy Palmer, summed it up perfectly, when he said
[the] Vantage has always delivered the purest of thrills, but in Roadster form that adrenaline rush is set to go to the next level.
The roadster comes with ZF’s eight-speed automatic gearbox and a full complement of driving modes – Sport, Sport + and Track – each tuned to give the driver control of the vehicle’s dynamic character and behaviour for a truly dynamic and responsive driving experience.
No fiddling with this roof
There are convertibles and then there’s the Aston Martin Vantage convertible. When you’re driving the Vantage Roadster, you’re one step ahead of every other open top on the road.
The moment the sun dares to peep from behind the clouds, the roof can be down in just 6.7 seconds. When the first drop falls from the sky, you’ll be dry and cocooned under the roof in 6.8 seconds. And if that’s not impressive enough (it’s the fastest convertible roof ever by the way), you can lower and raise it at speeds of up to 31mph. No need to find somewhere to pull over and no opportunity for passing drivers to revel in your misfortune when the heavens open!
Designed to perfection
The Vantage is Aston Martin’s neatest and most agile model, and the engineering and design teams at Gaydon sensibly decided not to spoil it’s flowing lines with a clunky folding metal roof. Instead, they designed the new Vantage Roadster with a much lighter fabric roof, which looks striking when it's up and perfectly streamlined when it's tucked away.
Other design features reflect some of the Coupé best touches, including distinctive side gills, a fierce front splitter and strong flanks. At the back, the curving contours of the boot spoiler are accentuated by a full-width band of LED lights.
Take to the road in classic style
The arrival of the Vantage Roadster is timed to coincide with the 70th anniversary of the car’s nameplate. To celebrate, you can now order either version of the Vantage with the classic ‘vane’-style grille, with the horizontal chrome slats sported by previous Vantage models over the decades. You can also pick your favourite from a new range of alloy wheel designs and paint finishes.
