A Detailed Look at the Aston Martin DBS Superleggera Volante
What’s special about the new Aston Martin Volante?
If you love the Aston Martin DBS Coupé then the Volante is for you – but it’s more than just the soft-top equivalent.
To ensure a smooth and streamlined ride in convertible mode, the new DBS Superleggera Volante’s innovative Aeroblade design pulls air around the car rather than through it. Better airflow means an Aston Martin that slices through the atmosphere but stays satisfyingly glued to the road.
What’s an Aeroblade?
Aston Martin has outdone itself with the remarkable Aeroblade technology on the new DBS Superleggera Volante.
Air is channeled primarily around the car, or released through razor-thin vents at the very back, with a deployable element that reduces downwash. Everything from the body shape to the wing mirror arms – designed to act as air-directing blades – is optimised to force air through the all the right places.
What’s the fabric roof on the new Superleggera Volante like?
In true Aston Martin style, the mechanics and technical aspects of the new DBS Volante’s convertible design have been expertly refined.
The drop-top roof is made of eight layers of specialised fabric, and takes just 14 seconds to open. It opens from inside the car or using the key fob. Pick the colour that suits you best, complemented by a range of exterior finishes.
Which environment is the new DBS Volante best for?
All of them! The new Superleggera Volante has been aggressively tested in locales across the world.
According to Aston Martin, it’s been put through its paces in extreme environments including the Arctic Circle and Death Valley, exposing it to the full spectrum of temperatures. The result? An Aston Martin with a fabric roof that’s had 10 years of usage tested in a fraction of that time, ensuring it’s built to last.
How fast is the new Aston Martin Volante?
Those with a need for speed will already be familiar with what an Aston Martin has to offer, and the new DBS Superleggera Volante doesn’t disappoint.
As well as its impressive top speed, the Volante strikes 62mph in just 3.6 seconds from standing. Its ZF eight-speed gearbox is mounted in a transaxle layout and works alongside a 5.2-litre V12 engine firing at 715bhp.
