A momentous event in British aviation and automotive history is here. The incredible outcome of a unique collaboration between Dick Lovett and two of Britain’s best-known brands, British Airways and Aston Martin Lagonda, to mark the 50-year anniversary of the British-built Concorde’s first flight and BA’s 100th birthday.
Make sure you’re sitting down and have your seatbelt fastened. The Aston Martin DBS Superleggera Concorde Edition has landed and this you have to see.
Close connections
Our own connection to Concorde runs deep. She took to the skies for the very first time from Filton airfield, right next door to Aston Martin Bristol. Today, our state-of-the-art workshop, where cutting edge engineering takes centre stage, looks out over the old runway, which is now home to Aerospace Bristol, Concorde’s final resting place.
On 26th November 2003 Concorde flew into Filton for the final time, marking the end of the brief but unforgettable age of supersonic travel. To commemorate this remarkable era and pay our respects to the world’s first and only supersonic passenger aircraft, we give you the Aston Martin DBS Superleggera Concorde Edition. A concept and automotive homage as breath-taking and epic as its namesake.
The union of three British icons
Bringing these two British legends together felt natural. Like us, Aston Martin Lagonda shares a bond with the ‘High Climbing Queen of the Skies’.
She was the flagship of British Airways and is now an icon of Britain’s proud aviation history. As the flagship of the Aston Martin range, the DBS Superleggera Coupé is well on its way to becoming an icon of British automotive excellence.
Concorde represents the very best of British science, technology and engineering prowess. No other passenger aircraft has come close in terms of not only outright performance but also in its unmistakable, beautiful form. There are so many parallels we can draw with the Aston Martin DBS Superleggera, from its immense power, to its performance ability and beautiful design.
Simon Lane, Director of Q by Aston Martin
To commemorate this very special collaboration, the inspection plaque of each Concorde Edition will be signed by the CEO of Aston Martin Lagonda, Dr Andy Palmer and British Airways’ Chairman, Álex Cruz.
Automotive history in the making
To honour of the number of Concorde built at Filton, only ten DBS Superleggera Concorde Edition will be hand built by the skilled craftsmen at Q by Aston Martin.
The ultimate customisation service, where customers are encouraged to ‘...let their imaginations soar’. Particularly apt, as special permission has been granted for authenticated metal from Concorde and the heavily protected British Airways branding to be used in the design.
If it sounds desirable enough already, this limited edition has many more exquisite details to get excited about, with over 30 bespoke Q features. What’s more, each DBS Concorde Edition will be unique – no two will be the same - thanks to the most ingenious finishing touch.
The individual CAA registration number of one of the Filton-built Concorde will be marked on the exterior and etched into the seat belt buckle. Buy (or rather invest in) a DBS Concorde Edition and you’ll own the only one of its kind in the world. A rare piece of automotive history in the making.
DBS Concorde Edition – the ultimate compliment
The Aston Martin DBS Superleggera Coupé is unrivalled in its balance of beauty and performance. Lightweight yet emboldened with unequivocal strength and brutal power. Known for the heart-racing engine roar that’s unleashed by the powertrain. Its own sonic boom. The ultimate super GT even before it receives the ultimate makeover.
Throughout the DBS Concorde Edition there are respectful nods to the aircraft that inspired it. Some immediately apparent, some more intriguing, not one out of place or over-the-top. Painted in bespoke Concorde White, there are hints of the British Airways tailfin livery on the roof strake, aero blade and rear diffuser. The BA Speed Marque logo has morphed effortlessly into the fender badge.
With the lightest of touches, the unmistakable Concorde silhouette has been blended into the exterior and interior.
Elegant and graceful, it subtly enhances the gloss black tinted carbon fibre roof and anodised black side strake. Streamlined, sleek gloss black accents continue in the tinted 2x2 twill carbon fibre windscreen surround and 10-spoke diamond turned alloy wheels.
Echoes of glory
The DBS Superleggera Concorde Edition’s exquisite interior conjures the spirit of Concorde’s cabin as only Aston Martin can. Concorde branded Dark Knight leather seats and understated embroidered panels echo the sonic wave. A graphic of three Concorde in flight, striking in its simplicity, surrounds the door speakers.
Even the legendary Mach Meter has its place. A reminder of the aircraft’s immense achievements. Best of all, the paddleshift will be machined from genuine Concorde metal. The final first-class Aston Martin touch is a colour-matched luggage set complete with Concorde-grade titanium tag, perfectly sized for aircraft cabins and the Superleggera's boot.
Exclusive to Aston Martin Bristol
We are immensely proud to be part of this inspiring project and we can’t wait for you to see the DBS Superleggera Concorde Edition in all its majesty.
Of course, this will not be a typical car purchase. Those lucky enough to buy one of these limited editions will be invited to become part of Aston Martin and Concorde history at an exclusive dinner. At this unique event you will witness all ten Superleggera DBS Concorde Editions being unveiled under the watchful eye of Concorde and enjoy a luxury dinner and entertainment inspired by the first class inflight experience aboard her.
