Aston Martin: 110 years of driving excellence

Recognising and celebrating the past, present, and future of Aston Martin.

Why is 2023 so special for Aston Martin? Not only have we just celebrated and said a warm farewell to the iconic Aston Martin DBS Superleggera, with the launch of the brand new DBS 770 Ultimate, but it is also time to commemorate an amazing achievement from our friends at Aston Martin.

Sunday 15th of January, marked exactly 110 years since founders Lionel Martin and Robert Bamford officially formed the partnership that went on to create the first Aston Martin car. Let us take you back on a history filled with automotive intensity, cutting edge British innovation, and high-octane racing success.

Despite Aston Martin having a history in popular culture synonymous with British secret agent, James Bond, it is no secret that Aston Martin started its legacy on the race track.

As seen above, Aston Martin have kicked things off with photos of the Valkyrie hypercar posing next to the 1923 Razor Blade, one of the brand’s oldest-surviving race cars.

The Razor Blade was Aston’s first car that was specifically designed with aerodynamics in mind, achieving numerous records at Brooklands in 1923. Skip forward a century later and Aston Martin have come a long way since their humble beginnings at their small workshop on Henniker Mews, London. Not only becoming one of the world’s most renowned automotive marques, Aston Martin is acclaimed for its luxurious craftsmanship, innovative design and scarce exclusivity.

Look back ever so slightly to 2022, and we were thrilled to once again see Aston Martin on the Formula 1 circuit. From its newly introduced official safety and Doctors cars in the shape of the Vantage and DBX, to a sad farewell to legendary F1 Driver Sebastian Vettel, 2022 is a year to remember. We’re excited to mention that owning your very own Aston Martin F1 Edition is still possible and our Team at Aston Martin Bristol would be happy to assist you.

Last year also saw the launch of Aston Martin's latest DBX model, the DBX707: the world’s most powerful luxury SUV. This higher performance version of the DBX sets a new performance standard in the luxury SUV sector.

What’s in store for 2023?

So what do Aston Martin have in store for us to celebrate such a significant milestone? To start off, Aston Martin has stated that there will be a “new, strictly limited, exclusive Aston Martin model”, however it is still under wraps as to what this model will be or even look like. Will it be based on the breathtaking Valhalla? Your guess is as good as ours at the moment.

At Dick Lovett, we’re proud to unveil how we celebrated the 110 Years of Aston Martin. Mike, our Dealer Principal, had gone above and beyond to arrange for an array of Heritage Aston Martin models to be on display at our showroom in Bristol, for our customers to view and enjoy.

Included in this collection was a stunning 1970s V8, a marvellous 1960 DB4 Series II, and a breath taking 1934 Aston Martin MK II, the improvement on the Le Mans Specification. We loved welcoming everyone into our showroom for a cup of coffee and our friendly staff talked everyone through the features that make these Aston Martin models so special.

The 110th anniversary is one of several notable landmarks for Aston Martin in 2023, with the year also marking 75 years of the DB bloodline, 60 years of the iconic DB5 model, and 20 years of Aston Martin’s Gaydon headquarters - the purpose built facility serving as a centre of excellence for world class sports car design and engineering.
