Porsche reveal new, lighter, more efficient and more powerful than ever Boxster

The new Porsche Boxster. Faster, lighter, cleaner and more economical, will be officially revealed at the Geneva motor show in March, before going on sale in the UK on 28 April 2012.

Never before in the history of the Porsche Boxster was a change of generation so comprehensive. The open-top two-seater car is being marketed with a completely new lightweight body and a completely revamped chassis. Considerably lower weight, longer wheelbase, a wider track and larger wheels significantly enhance yet further the mid-engine sports car’s driving dynamics, already far and away the best in its class, supported by the new electro-mechanical power steering.

It’s still recognisably a Boxster, but changed styling with shorter overhangs, significantly forward-shifted windscreen, flatter silhouette and expressive edges make the new Boxster sharp and dynamic. The passengers are enclosed by the completely redesigned, fully electric hood, which now dispenses with a convertible top compartment lid. The interior offers the occupants more space and reflects the new Porsche outline with the raked centre console, which, originating with the Carrera GT, ensures further improved ergonomics in all models.

A lower weight, standard stop/start technology, new electo-mechanical steering, and thermal management for the direct injection engines help make the new Boxster up to 15% more fuel efficient than before.

A six-speed manual transmission is standard and a seven-speed double-clutch PDK gearbox is an option. The Sport Chrono Package (with active engine mounts) and Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV) with a mechanical rear diff are also optional extras.

A standard Boxster comes with an Alcantara-trimmed interior, 18" wheels, Porsche's 7" PCM multimedia system, MP3 connectivity, a Sport button, and electric operation for the roof. Aside from more power and torque, the Boxster S has 19" wheels, twin exhausts, bi-xenon lights and and a 'partial' leather interior.
