Georgie Twigg refuses to be complacent about place in Team GB hockey team

Georgie, our London 2012 hopeful is part of a group of 30 girls doing all they can to make the grade for the final 16 which will become part of Team GB at the London Games in July and August of this year.
As Georgie is entering the final months of preparation before London 2012 and before jetting off to Argentina for the Champions Trophy, she was recently interviewed by John Pakey of the Lincolnshire Echo.
In the interview, Georgie revealed how the determination and desire for individual glory is far outweighed by the strongteam spirit in the camp.
Here are a brief few snippets of what was said in the interview:
“My place in the squad for the Olympics is by no means certain and I still need to work hard. We have a squad of 30 and only 16 of us will make the Olympics team, which means nearly half of the girls will not be heading down to London.”
“Those that don’t make it will be sad, but we are all in it together. If I don’t get selected I will be behind my team-mates all the way. It’s the Olympics and this is what we are all working for. We all want gold and if we can’t be part of that, we want our friends who we train with to achieve it.”
“We will not know the final squad until late May or beginning of June and we still have the test event at the Olympic Hockey Park in London to play. It is a long time before then and a lot can happen. People can get injured and the like, so I just want to keep working hard.”
It all sounds very promising, and we wish our London 2012 hopeful the best of luck, both in Argentina this week and in her attempts to get selected for the Olympics team.
